This year marks the highly anticipated return of the anime series Black Clover, which had gone on hiatus for several years to allow the manga to progress ahead of the anime. Studio Perriot, responsible for the series, has recently unveiled the first-ever stills from the upcoming movie, Sword of the Wizard King.

Black Clover Movie Release Date & Delays
The Black Clover movie, titled “Sword of the Wizard King,” is scheduled to premiere on June 16, 2023. Fans worldwide will be able to enjoy the film on Netflix, without the usual delay experienced by international audiences in the anime film industry. Initially set for a March 31 release, the production of Sword of the Wizard King faced delays due to the pandemic, resulting in the film’s postponement to June 16.
These released photos feature various members of the Black Bull, squad captains, and potentially new villains who have joined the show, adding to the excitement for fans as it signifies the movie’s imminent release.
Film Details
The upcoming Black Clover film continues to meet fans’ expectations, but it deviates from the anime series’ storyline. The movie introduces Conrad Leto, the former Wizard King who had rebelled against the kingdom and was sealed away but has now been resurrected. With the intent to utilize the “Imperial Sword,” Conrad seeks to revive Edward Avalaché, Princia Funnybunny, and Jester Garandaros, three infamous Wizard Kings from history, in order to rule the kingdom.
For those unfamiliar with the anime series, Black Clover follows the journey of two aspiring wizards: Asta, who is born without magic but gains anti-magic powers, and Yuno, chosen by the legendary 4-leaf Grimoire. Hailing from a remote village, they venture to the capital of the Clover Kingdom to become fully fledged wizards. Along the way, they encounter formidable adversaries and must prove themselves worthy of the title “Wizard King,” the kingdom’s most powerful and esteemed wizard.
Prior to the hiatus, the final episode of Black Clover featured the appearance of Asta’s devil, Liebe, as Nacht Faust oversaw their devil-binding ritual, which involved a battle between Asta and Liebe to determine whether Asta could subdue him.
Additionally, the anime adaptation of Black Clover has been nominated for the Best Fight Scene category (Yami vs Licht) and Best Continuing Series at the 2019 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
